Plymouth VCS Training Fund



Round 2 of our Plymouth VCS Training Fund is now open.

The Plymouth Drake Foundation is delighted to have the opportunity to support a large number of organisations in Plymouth through its new Plymouth Voluntary & Community Sector (VCS) Training Fund.

Plymouth VCS Training Fund is for small Plymouth based voluntary and community sector organisations that need funding for training. It can be used for any form of training that the organisation has identified as a need; for example courses on Trustees and governance, diversifying income, to health and safety or food hygiene certificates. It can be accredited or non-accredited but it must be intended to benefit the individual and organisation. Individuals may be trustees, staff or volunteers. Consideration will be given to direct funding to training providers in Plymouth, if the benefits to VCS' in Plymouth can be demonstrated.

Criteria:

• The applicant must be a Plymouth based voluntary sector organisation
• Turnover must be less than £100,000 per annum
• Applications are up to £100 per organisation
• The bursary can be used for training of Trustees / Directors, staff or volunteers
• There is no requirement for match funding although the monies can be used to partially fund more expensive courses
• The courses do not need to be accredited

Due to the high number of football related successful applications in the first round and in order to ensure that this money is distributed amongst the wider community we will not be accepting further application from Plymouth Football Teams; this has been agreed with the donor.

Groups Helped so far:
Pregnancy Crisis Care: The centre helps and meets with many vulnerable people, some of whom are pregnant, on a daily basis. Sometimes sickness or medical attention can be needed and this training will allow their team to be trained in First Aid so that they are equipped to deal with a situation should any client fall ill.

 

Friends of Ham Woods: This would enable the organisation to engage in coppicing and thinning of trees in Ham Woods in a safe manner. Without qualification, chainsaw use in a public place is prohibited.

 

Plymouth Play Association: They work with individuals from all areas of the community providing scrap workshops, at events (Disabled Awareness Day, National Play Day etc) as well as having over 400 members and up to 50 volunteers. Some of our volunteers and the individuals we work with have hearing or speech difficulties and use British Sign Language to communicate. This small grant will enable their staff and volunteers to be trained in British Sign Language which will improve communication and increase the works awareness of the related issues.

Bickleigh Riding Stables: The stables work with children, young people and vulnerable adults from diverse backgrounds and all ethnic and social groups. Staff training and development in equality and diversity will provide a better understanding of the issues surrounding all members of their organisation.

The Woolwell Centre: See on average of 1000 people each week this training will provide the necessary confident staff that will know what to do if an emergency due to being trained by AFS Fire and Security Ltd.

Horizons: The training will benefit Horizons as they will be able to run their own in house courses instead of outsourcing. The training will provide them with a qualified RYA First Aid Instructor who could then run in house courses for our volunteers and Young sailing cadets that are taking their Assistant Instructors course.

Woodford Methodist Community Church: The training will provide a team with the knowledge and ability to talk to all the people confidently about debt management and other financial problems. The training will provide each individual with a one on one money manager to help them over come their financial problems.

Devon and Cornwall Food Association: After the PTTLS course it will enable the DCFA volunteer to train other DCFA volunteer's and staff. It will save DCFA money and add to the CV of the first trained person and any others who they train.

New4You Youth Group: They do numerous camps/events with young people throughout each year; and an event every three years for food hygiene training. Their team need to be updated on food hygiene training and this grant will allow this which means their events are able to continue.

Tamerton Foliot Football Club: The training will provide the football club with 2 Level 1 Qualified coaches to help out with new players starting up in our U8 & U9 age groups.

The Blurt Foundation: As a local charity this foundation has very limited resources and have had to rely on volunteers/ outsourcing in order to produce marketing materials. They now have access to Adobe Illustrator Software and have been awarded a grant for one of their team to gain a qualification and gain the skills needed to produced their marketing materials. This will reduce cost as well as speed up the process.

Cruse Bereavement Care: 3 Volunteers will gain CPD training on Death, Grief and Family Relationships. All of their volunteers work with bereaved clients and this training will enable them to work with clients who have family issues caused by losing a loved one.

Devon and Cornwall Furniture Reuse Project: This training project will be in Sage Accounting and will enable their accounts to be prepared and presented professionally and ease capacity. It also holds a benefit when applying for future funding where they will be in a better position to present their accounts.

Unity Park Bowling Lawn: This training will provide knowledge in protection of children and vulnerable adults in sport. It will enable team members to identify the way in which these children and adults can be subject to bullying.

Chaddlewood Minors AFC Youth Football Club: The training will provide the football club with 2 Level 1 Qualified coaches.

Morley Ranger FC: Coaching course for two female coaches The team are looking to enhance the development in coaching for their players reaching 16 years old for those who are interested in coaching and leadership by placing them on level 1 courses.

Hooe Rovers Youth Football Club: The training will provide the football club with a Level 1 Qualified coach.

Friends of Miller Way: The training provided will give the team knowledge on successful event management. This aims to encourage residents and young people to volunteer in their Dreamscheme environmental project.

Keyham Kolts Active Autisitc FC: They have just set up Autistic and Aspergers syndrome training and they have a volunteer who has been helping, getting her level one coaching will be a great benefit to these children as a lot of them need one to one time. This will help raise their self-esteem and confidence.

Weston Mill Oak Villa FC: The training will provide the football club with a Level 1 Qualified coach. They will begin coaching sessions with 4 - 8 year old's with a view to become a manager of one of the youth teams.

Drake Sailing: This training will provide the charity with their own Helms and safety boat operatives which will reduce their costs when using the Mount Batten Centre.
