Grant Awarded

Plymouth Drake Foundation awarded the Goosewell branch of Jack & Jill’s Childcare a grant of £3,000.

Jack & Jill’s childcare is a charity that operates early years childcare for service families during times of conflict and peacetime. They have 7 child nurseries around Plymouth but this grant was specifically given to the Goosewell centre.

This grant was to enable the centre to provide an outdoor place space which is secure and safe to provide the children with the opportunity to have free flow play. Outdoor play space is vital for young children to develop their gross motor skills and adopt healthy life long habits of exercise for their wellbeing. OFSTED also encourage outside play for young children to assist them in being able to manage tasks safely and develop in all areas of learning including emotional intelligence and communication skills.

The outdoor play space would also have a quiet dedicated area know as a thinking space where the children can make sense of their feelings when a parent is deployed for service. The grant was also used to purchase equipment for the play space which included a commissioned bench which would be used a “Friend Bench”.
