Plymouth Drake Foundation Annual Celebration & Awards event



Plymouth University hosts The Drake Foundation “Spirit of the Community Awards”

On Tuesday 18th October 2016 The Drake Foundation held their annual award and celebration night in a beautiful marquee, located in the grounds of Plymouth University. The event attracted over 100 guests, including; the Lord Mayor of Plymouth, City Councillors, and Award Nominees.

Plymouth Drake Foundation was established to help the City’s young people reach their full potential. As a community charity they believe that the future prosperity of our City is linked to releasing the aspirations of our young people. This year the charity have launched their
Imagine campaign, which aims, over the next 12 months to lay the groundwork to help 4000 young people to release their full potential.

The evening was supported by the Plymouth University, Santander, Murrays and Satori. Tim Manns from Radio Plymouth hosted the event. Other inspirational speakers included Arthur Ainslie, Chair of Plymouth Drake Foundation and Jonathan Hulton, Director of the creative marketing agency, iMarvel.

The three lucky winners of the awards were; Kieran Perry (Plymouth University’s Student Volunteer Award), Stonehouse Action (Plymouth City Council Community Award) and Millfields Inspired (Plymouth Drake Foundation Community Award). Who were all recognised for their amazing achievements within the City.

Hannah Sloggett, from Stonehouse Action said “we are so chuffed to have been given this award. We've called her Crystal and she'll be on display at Union Corner recognising everyone who has contributed to making Stonehouse Action a success”. The evening also saw the launch of a raffle to win a Volkswagen UP! car , who are supporting the draw. Only 2000 tickets are available for this draw, which are selling at £10 each. The total amount raised on the night was £5000, this included £1600 pledged by City Councillors, and was match funded by Santander. Mr Ainslie said “we were delighted to present these awards to three very well deserved winners. We had a great attendance to the award ceremony, and the support of the community has been outstanding. A big thank you to everyone who has been involved in making the evening run smoothly. We are looking forward to the next 12 months and being able to support more young people, the funds from the car raffle will make a big difference in supporting this”.

Other organisations who have already received a grant from Drake Foundation include; Beach Schools South West, Hamoaze House, Millfields Inspired and Plymouth Musical Activities Club.
